On January 15th Caylen and I made the trek up to Portland, OR for our first regional training with L'Oreal Professionnel. We were both very excited to have the opportunity to join in on such an event. Not only were we able to attend the L'Oreal training but also work in the Sellwood District with TEAL Salon and in the Hollywood District with Jodi (our boss from L'Oreal); watching both groups of people working behind the chair and also participating in some hands-on training.
Saturday morning we headed into the Sellwood District after being lost for about 45 minutes (can't always rely on technology to tell you where to go) to work with Ryan and DeAnnalyn Teal at TEAL Salon. TEAL Salon won the 2008 North American Hairstyling Award for Salon Team with these amazing styles.
Thankfully Caylen and I were early trying to locate the salon and arrived to location early so we walked around the surrounding blocks to see what type of area/demographic we would see. It had a resemblance of Bend, OR in that all the people were friendly, the buildings were redone with the original style, and it had a small town feel. Entering into TEAL we were both a bit nervous and unsure of what to expect from the owners and stylists. It was amazing, they were incredibly friendly and walked us through the whole salon explaining why they designed the salon the way they did. (This is a big reason why Caylen and I choose to redo our space the way we did.) We spend most of the morning with DeAnnalyn working on hair color techniques and discussing the different lines of hair color within the L'Oreal Professionnel brand. It was a great dialogue and we learned so much from her. Being able to spend time with a platform artist is amazing let alone having the one on one time Caylen and I were having was so great. It is time for us to begin to step up our game and join the ranks with the big dogs. What I mean by this is that Caylen and I are hoping to put together a collection for the 2011 North American Hairstyling Awards; this will be a huge step for us. Ryan was able to give us some really informative knowledge on what to do with the competitions and how to prepare. It is going to be such an exciting road ahead, we can't wait.
